Mom & Wrenna
Date: 01/01/2007
New Year's Day was the first day we got to see the babies, who had spent their holiday in Tampabasking in the warmth of Florida and their other grandparents. Great grandma Miriam, spry chick of 82 that she is, wasted not a moment getting down on the floor to play with Wrenna and the old Fisher-Price farm.

And reading to Dash.

We did eventually persuade her that she could actually sit in a chair and still read a book to a grandchild.

She knew enough to sit in a chair.
Food
Date: 01/01/2007
I'd forgotten, but Kati remembered, that I'd said this summer that she and Miriam were the perfect relatives--close enough to order around but not so close that they feel they can refuse. So here she is, putting out food.

Meanwhile, Miriam was putting together a spinach pie.

Wrenna accepted some help from her mom
Banana

But was quite certain she could handle a banana all by herself.
Presents!
Date: 01/01/2007
Since we'd missed Christmas with the babies, we got to give them their presents on New Year's. Dash was happy to prove he could carry even the big boxes.
Help opening presents
Date: 01/01/2007
I think this one started with Dash "helping" Wrenna open hers. But he wasn't fast enough either, so Daddy was called in.

What's the female for "Knight?"
Date: 01/01/2007
Knightess? Knightella? Anyway, she was a charming one.

This time it's Dash in the knight costume.

Dr. Dash
Date: 01/01/2007
He spent most of the day in the doctor outfit from Ann Arbor.
Fireman dad
Date: 01/01/2007
Santa had actually brought a fireman's outfit to Tampa, and Dash had worn the hat to our place. But he let Rish wear it while he tried on all his new costumes.
Music set

It wasn't all dress-up. Uncle Bob provided this great set of musical instruments.

The igloo

In addition to several books about sled dogs, courtesy of Great-grandma Miriam, there was an igloo play set, with its own sled dogs.
Two hippopotami
Date: 01/01/2007
The gift stash also included two unrelated hippopotamuses. I don't know where the decree came from that said all pull-along hippos must be purple and pink, but there obviously was one.

Otto seemed content to sit in his crate and watch the action around him.

Posing for photos
Date: 01/01/2007
I was actually thinking after it was all over that maybe I should have tried to get some photos of the whole group. But given the trouble I had getting good photos of smaller groups, I was wise not to even try

I don't suppose you could all look at the camera, could you?

To the bridge
Date: 01/01/2007
I'd been wanting to show Dash the new bicycle bridge for a long time.
Sticks
Date: 01/01/2007
Because I figured he needed to have the fun of dropping a stick in on one side and watching it come out the other. He was up for it.
There it goes!

Where is it?
Date: 01/01/2007
There it is!
Date: 01/01/2007
He actually felt no need to drop them on one side of the bridge and wait for them to come out the other side. It was sufficient to just drop them in on the downstream side and watch the current carry them away.
And if you notice that this isn't really the same stick that he's dropping in in the earlier photos, then you're playing too close attention and probably have better things to do.
